What do you think which term ist the most fitting? 🏳️🌈
Japanese – OKAMA (おかま)
In its kanji spelling, OKAMA literally means “rice bowl”. In the 19th century, this became popular as a term for the passive participant in anal sex. According to one theory, the term was chosen because of the similarity of bowls and (round) ass cheeks. OKAMA could also come from the term "kagema" (in the shadows), as this was previously the term used to describe actors in the Kabuki theater who were known for offering visitors services as prostitutes.
Portuguese – BICHA
The word describes a worm or other similar legless creatures. It is not known why BICHA has become established as a swear word for gay men. However, it is believed that it was influenced by the English word “bitch”.
Russian – PEDIK (педик)
The Russian word PEDIK comes from “pederast,” which in turn comes from Greek and means “lover for boys.” In ancient times in Russia it was also used as a synonym for pedophiles. Today PEDIK is perceived as vulgar, although it is a fairly clear and straightforward term for homosexual men.
Turkish – IBNE
In the Turkish language, the word IBNE is used as a degrading term for homosexual men. The swear word can also mean asshole or bastard and therefore does not always only refer to gays. IBNE comes from Arabic and means “boy” or “son”. Unfortunately, during my research I was unable to find out why IBNE has become established as a slur for homos in Turkey. However, my theory is that gay men are referred to as boys in a derogatory way because people want to make it clear that they are not “real” full-grown men. If anyone knows more, please let me know!
